JOB OPENING – Wildlife Biologist/Environmental Monitor
RIDGE Environmental Planning Ltd. is a privately owned and operated environmental consulting firm offering a complete suite of services for a variety of sectors including Transportation and Infrastructure, Power and Transmission Lines, Oil & Gas and Natural Resources. Our experienced team is comprised of Professional Biologists, Environmental Technologists, Qualified Environmental Professionals and Environmental Planners.
RIDGE is currently seeking a candidate who is highly motivated to be a part of a growing organization. The candidate would be experienced, well organized, technically competent with a strong skill set of data collection/technical report writing and must have bird/nest & wildlife survey/sweep experience. For this position, applicants are required to have a professional designation – P. Bio, R.Bio, R.T. Biol, QEP.
Ideally the candidate has worked in and understands Alberta Power and Transmission line sectors. This role requires independence and someone who is comfortable working alone throughout the province. RIDGE operates out of Calgary but for this role, ideally the candidate will be located within the Calgary/Edmonton corridor.
Under the general supervision of the senior staff, the applicant will be responsible for completing field and office related work associated with various projects throughout Alberta and western Canada that may include:
- Wildlife Surveys – mitigation management,
- Pre-disturbance Site Assessments,
- Development of Project specific Environmental Construction (ECO), Management (EMP) and Protection (EPP) Plans, and
- Environmental Monitoring of construction projects.
What the candidate brings to the table:
- Post secondary education in environmental studies and/or biology.
- Professional designation.
- Experience working on linear development projects.
- Technically strong in wildlife & bird/nest sweeps and mitigation management, environmental monitoring and environmental inspections.
- Strong office skills that include basic knowledge of computers, file structure, GPS and data management, project planning, logistics and safety management.
- Understanding of provincial & federal regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to solve complex problems and provide solutions.
- Open to asking questions and receiving direction.
- Proven track record of working successfully with clients and regulators.
- Ability to travel on short notice to various project locations.
- Experience working under high pressure situations with the ability to be an active member on multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to excel in challenging conditions and terrains typically away from home.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent technical & scientific writing skills and experience with plans and reporting.
- A valid driver’s license – drivers abstract maybe requested.
